Before and After: From the Road

I wish I had a better BEFORE picture because the middle photo doesn't do this part of the yard justice since it was taken after our work last year. The first photo shows the Oriental Bittersweet in full foliage last summer. Everything that is green in this picture is dead and brown in the second photo. None of the pine grove is shown in this photo. The split rail fence is missing from this photo because a drunk driver plowed through it. This is everything from the right of the telephone pole.

The second photo shows a larger view from a different angle across the street at the end of March. Where you see three trees on the left was the edge of the woods that we cleared last year! We removed about 2/3 of the scrub, trees and fallen trees in June 2008.

The last photo shows our handiwork at the end of April after 5 days of burning for 6 hours total. We have more to do, but the thorns are brutal and we are going to give them Round Up and get the last of them next spring. It's still a mess, but about 20% of what it used to be.
