Farmer Time!

After being sick with a cold for almost three weeks and having poison ivy since April 20, I've been a little run down since we finished the yard clean up. My energy level is back now, just in time for our big spring plans: today we are buying 24 baby chicks so we can raise laying hens! We converted the lean-to behind the garage into a coop and were blessed to receive all of the coop supplies from a new friend for free. He is tearing down the family barn and had a bunch of stuff for us to use: two nesting boxes, two watering troughs and two feeding bins.

Last night I filed the edges of two packs of pumpkin seeds and then put them in water to help them germinate when I put them in the peat pots today. I bought seeds for pumpkins, butternut squash (family favorite), fancy lettuce pack, 4# carrots, sweet corn, water melon, musk melon and cucumbers. They'll grow in the peat pots for 2 weeks and then we'll plant them in the raised beds that Michael is making.

Can't wait to have fresh eggs and veggies in a few months!!!
